Warna Jansen

Warna grew up in a small town in the Netherlands. At a very young age, she discovered she had a feel for languages: she learnt how to read even before starting school.

After finishing secondary school and discovering her love for foreign languages, Warna decided to study English Language and Culture at the University of Groningen.

Warna has now worked in the translation/localisation industry for almost 7 years, including 1 year in Spain. It is a miracle she chose to exchange the lovely Spanish weather and food for a job in London: as a small town girl in the big bad city she didn’t expect to last for more than 2 years, but Warna is still here and enjoying it to the fullest.

One of her passions is dancing, especially street dance/hip hop and in 2003 or 2004 (she can’t remember the exact year) she and her hip hop team became Dutch national street dance champions. Now she is trying her hand (and feet) at ice dancing.

Last year, Warna decided it was time for a new challenge and she did the part-time TESOL course in London, so she’s also a qualified TESOL teacher.

Likes: dancing, beer, exploring other countries and cultures, food and cooking (although she doesn’t think she’s very good at it), music, stand-up comedy, live gigs

Dislikes: People who think women shouldn’t drink beer (beer is wonderful and it is a ridiculous notion that drinking beer is not lady-like), people stopping dead in their tracks at the top or bottom of escalators, dishonest people, mustard and anchovies
